Hands on Hartford/Center City Churches
The Cathedral is a founding member of Center City Churches,
now called Hands On Hartford. In partnership with over a dozen
churches, the programs of Hands On Hartford/Center City Churches
work toward strengthening the downtown Hartford community,
and form the core of our outreach ministry. These programs
include the weekday MANNA feeding ministry hosted in the dining
room of the Cathedral, the community food pantry, tutoring
at Sanchez and Betances Schools, a monthly Soup and Services
offering, Meals-on-Wheels, work with homeless persons, and
support of Peter’s Retreat (a home for persons with
HIV/AIDS). The Cathedral made a $300,000 loan to Center City
Churches in 2002 that enabled the organization to purchase
Peter’s Retreat to support this important ministry.
