Dean

The Very Rev. Mark B. PendletonThe Very Rev. Mark B. Pendleton has served as dean since 2004. He received his Masters of Divinity from General Theological Seminary, NYC. He was ordained a deacon in 1991 of Florida and a priest in 1991 in the Diocese of Newark. Before coming to the Cathedral, he served in New Jersey, Connecticut and Maryland.

Dean Pendleton's involvement in the larger church and society include: honorary canon, St. Andrew’s Cathedral in Aberdeen, Scotland; co-convener of the Connecticut Episcopal Clergy Association; deputy, General Convention of the Episcopal Church; board member, Hands on Hartford; president, Community of the Cross of Nails-North America; member, Covenant Committee for the Episcopal Church with the Anglican Church of Mexico; Alumni Executive Committee, General Theological Seminary; president of the board of trustees, The George Beach Home, Harford.

Dean Pendleton is married to Leslie Glover Pendleton and they have two children, William Glover and Lydia Grace.

lay leadership

The annual meetings of Cathedral parishioners and the Cathedral Chapter are held in January. The Annual Report for 2012 is available here.

Parish Committee

The Parish Committee represents the interests of the congregation, advises the clergy and provides leadership to the congregation. The committee meets monthly and each member focuses on a particular ministry of the Cathedral. Parish Committee members also serve as members of the Cathedral Chapter. They include chairperson Nancy Kemmerer, co-chair Rich Baraglia, Nancy Jacobs, Kimberly Newport, Pat Wrice, Randolph Howell, Everton McCalla, Melinda Robidoux and Joanne Griffith.

Scholarship Committee

Members of the Scholarship Committee include Maggie Alson Claud, Louis Ruddock, Kathy Montague, Lucy Groening and Howard Bergman.

Delegates to Diocesan Convention

Nancy Kemmerer and Rose Fichera-Eagen are delegates. Evelyn Noonan and Amy Beveridge are alternates.

Cathedral Chapter

The Cathedral Chapter is the legally constituted board of trustees of the Cathedral. Three members of the congregation and four members of the Diocese are elected each year to serve a three-year term, and the diocesan bishop serves as chair. The Chapter meets four times a year and has the following committees:

  • The Finance Committee advises the Chapter and Dean on all financial matters and presents the annual budget for approval.
  • The Personnel Committee advises the Dean and Chapter on all personnel matters and policies related to Cathedral employees.
  • The Building and Properties Committee advises the Dean and Chapter on all matters pertaining to the restoration and maintenance of all properties.
  • The Executive Committee is chaired by the Dean and serves as the legal governing body between Chapter meetings.

    Christ Church Cathedral FacadeView west from Main Street. One of the oldest Gothic-style churches in the United States, Christ Church Cathedral is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Building began in 1827, and the church was consecrated in December,1829.
